| Taiwan: A Pleasant Surprise
When I hailed a cab at the airport, I announced to the driver that I wanted to go to downtown Taipei. He laughed and said, “There is no downtown in Taipei. Taipei is downtown.” He took me to a hotel he knew and wished me luck. To say the least, I didn't know what I was getting into when I stepped out of that taxi and into a typhoon downpour.

當我在機場招了一台計程車時,我對司機說我要去台北最熱鬧的地方。他笑著說:「台北沒有最熱鬧的地方,台北市到處都很熱鬧。」他載我到他一間知道的旅館,祝我好運。含蓄一點地說,我下了計程車,只見識到颱風帶來的豪雨時,我完全不曉得自己到了什麼環境 。 |
